Katy Pet Wellness Solutions is proud to be a teaching facility. We work with a variety of veterinary technology and veterinary assistant schools and programs to help teach the veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants of tomorrow. Internships/externships are unpaid positions where individuals learn necessary hands-on skills to further their education in veterinary medicine.
Internships
Interns hosted at Katy Pet Wellness Solutions are typically working towards the requirements of Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA) as part of the requirements needed to sit for the Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) test. Interns usually work a few hours several times a week throughout 9-10 months or as long as needed to meet their hours requirement. The majority of our interns are participating in Katy ISD's Miller Career & Technology Center's Veterinary Medicine program. Other area programs may also sponsor and help coordinate similar internships.
Externships
Externs hosted at Katy Pet Wellness Solutions work with us for a short amount of time (usually 6-7 weeks) to learn the skills needed for their programs. Most externs are sponsored by career schools where students are working towards their Certified Veterinary Assistant certification. An externship typically involves a full time schedule over less than two months to meet the hours requirements needed to sit for the TVMA CVA test. While we currently work with some local schools who match us up with externs, other school programs may have requirements for externships that need to be met for an alternate course program. We are open to communicating with prospective externs to identify if training at our clinic will meet the needs of alternate programs.
If you are currently in a formal educational program and seeking an internship or externship, please contact us to inquire about openings for interns and externs.

Volunteering/Shadowing
We do not accept volunteers or shadowing positions. Individuals are better served in their education if they are able to have hands-on experience working directly with our team and patients rather than in an observational capacity. All of our externs and interns come to us with classroom experience that provides the foundation for what they will learn working with us. For individuals that are seeking an introduction into veterinary medicine, we recommend seeking formal education opportunities or to learn directly from us, we recommend applying for a Kennel Attendant position which is our entry level employee position.
